Marwan Kheireddine served as Lebanon’s Minister of Youth and Sports for the past four years. He is an Olympic fencer who competed internationally for Lebanon and is an author, journalist, and social media influencer. He has been a Lebanese and Olympic Fencing Federation member. He is also an entrepreneur and co-founder of a social enterprise in Lebanon. This article discusses Investing in Lebanon’s Youth Matters.
Empowering the Youth, Startups, and Innovation.
He started a social enterprise to empower youth entrepreneurship in Lebanon. He co-founded the company with his business partner with a mission to provide financial and professional opportunities for Lebanon’s youth, especially those who are marginalized.
Believing in Paying It Forward
He started a movement called Pay It Forward (PIF). After receiving a scholarship to study fencing at 18, he gave his scholarship money to another fencer struggling to pay tuition fees. This began a chain reaction that led to Marwan donating scholarships to other fencers worldwide. In addition, he started a social media campaign that continues to inspire other people to pay it forward.
Admission to Indian University.
He gained admission into the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT), Madras. Two years later, he was granted a full scholarship to study for an MS in Industrial Engineering at the University of Missouri-Rolla. His fencing career ended soon after, and he started working for Intel Corporation as a business analyst. He then moved to work for American Express Financial Advisors in Texas and later on the New York Stock Exchange (NYSE) as a new product development engineer.
In conclusion, Marwan Kheireddine in Lebanese youth is a role model, especially the young national fencers. He is, at one point in time, all of them. However, he has always been a leader, who believes in empowering the youth, and has become stronger because of it. He is a good example of one who believes in giving back, continues to inspire others towards helping others, and believes that good things happen to those who give back.
